Touring Miami

Kayaking in Miami where do I start. I took my Ocean kayak Prowler out for a spin yesterday October 12, 2004 with the intention of doing a little Kayak Fishing near Rickenbacker Causeway in Key Biscayne. Instead I turned it into a Kayak Touring trip. The wind was up about 10-15 knots, cloud cover was thick, tempeture had dropped, and the waves choppy, fishing the flats was no easy task. After a couple of hours I decided the fishing was not getting any better so I took my eye off of fishing and looked around. Kayak Touring can be done from a few hours to expeditions lasting several weeks.

The great thing about a kayak is you can go where most boats can't. I skimmed along the flats looking at rays on the bottom and fish that were not hungry, it was a great sight. I found several things on the bottom including several pieces of palm trees placed there by the last 3 near miss hurricanes and to my surprise large pieces of concrete that looked to have been there a long time. Look out Flats Boats! I swang over to the bird island near the marina (stay up wind) and checked out the birds. on the way back to the causeway I snapped this picture of the miami skyline. There are so many places to go and see by Kayak in Miami there's to many to list. I hope to be going down the Miami River and around Brickle Key sometime soon. Places like Coconut Grove Cutler Bay and the sailing clubs on the North side of the bay and off Rickenbacker Causeway provide short trips and good times, there's plenty of places to go around Miami.
